Little Mermaid Becomes a Live Action Film

Screen shot 2010-07-09 at 7.47.20 AM The classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, The Little Mermaid, is getting a live-action treatment as Working Title has obtain the rights to produce a film based on it. The production company has tapped Joe Wright to direct the said movie. His previous works include Atonement and The Soloist. Abi Morgan, who wrote the screenplay for The Iron Lady, has been tasked to adapt the story into this live action film.

The Little Mermaid is a children’s classic which Walt Disney Studios has animated in 1989 and featured a lot of singing and dancing. This went on to become such a big hit on the stage, as well.

No word yet on who will star the said film and when production starts, but this slew of fairy tale movies turned live action film seems to be the latest trend in Hollywood, isn’t it?
