More remake news…

The LA Times has reported that Warner Bros may be bringing back a new and improved remake of the Wizard of Oz.

There are two kinds of project slated. One, simple entitled Oz, is going to be produced by Temple Hill, the same people behind the Twilight franchise. And another project, a much darker version, is going to be written by Josh Olson and will focus on the granddaughter of Dorothy, who returns to Oz. The second project is technically a sequel, rather than a remake.

In fairness though, Wizard of Oz has been remade and redone plenty of times. There’s even one that starred the late Michael Jackson with Diana Ross in the movie musical, The Wiz.

First teaser trailer for ‘Twilight: Eclipse’. We just revealed that Summit Entertainment plans to release the first 90-second trailer for their third installment in their popular vampire series titled “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” on Thursday. However thanks to Reel Empire, we have the first ever teaser trailer for the film.

The teaser trailer is only ten seconds long and doesn’t reveal much, but it should be enough to hold you for the time being.

The planned remake of the Conan The Barbarian movie has found its lead star in Stargate Atlantis’ Jason Momoa. The actor has been in the running for the role but beat actors like Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) and Twilight’s Kellan Lutz, reportedly Deadline Hollywood.

Conan’s director, Marcus Nispel has apparently been impressed with Momoa when they shot a few trial scenes with the actor wielding the sword. He was, according to reports, very Arnold Schwarzenegger. It should be recalled that the Governor of California became famous for taking the role of Conan back in the 80’s.

Along this news also, Mickey Rourke has apparently been tapped to play the father of the character. Conan, the remake, is set to begin their production this coming spring and Momoa has been asked to beef up and polish his sword skills, as well.

With Sam Raimi, the director for the Spiderman Trilogy, now opting out of the project, news have it that even Tobey Maguire is out and the studio is now looking to bring in a whole new cast and crew for Spiderman 4.

According to reports, Sony wants “a more gritty, contemporary redo of the series,” and is looking towards the fresh batch of directors to do this next installment, which has been planned to run in 2010. What that probably means is targeting the “Twilight” market, which, from the marketing point of view, sounds feasible, but this will probably alienate hardcore fans of the comic book character.

Whatever is the result of this though, I just have to say that a third Spiderman was, in fact, completely unnecessary, so I really don’t care much about a fourth installment. Why can’t they just do something new?
