Movie Trailer: Waiting for “Superman”

Waiting for "Superman" Poster

Don’t mistake this trailer as a sequel to the Superman series. The title was meant to stand for something else.

Despite increased spending and politicians’ promises, our buckling public—education system, once the best in the world, routinely forsakes the education of millions of children. Oscar—winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim (”An Inconvenient Truth”) reminds us that education “statistics” have names: Anthony, Francisco, Bianca, Daisy, and Emily, whose stories make up the engrossing foundation of “Waiting for ‘Superman.’”

As he follows a handful of promising kids through a system that inhibits, rather than encourages, academic growth, Guggenheim undertakes an exhaustive review of public education, surveying “drop—out factories” and “academic sinkholes,” methodically dissecting the system and its seemingly intractable problems. However, embracing the belief that good teachers make good schools, Guggenheim offers hope by exploring innovative approaches taken by education reformers and charter schools that have—in reshaping the culture—refused to leave their students behind.

Screen shot 2010-03-02 at 12.02.09 PMZoolander, the comedy that placed Ben Stiller in Hollywood’s A-list, is set to have a sequel. Reports from MTV say that Stiller has confirmed the plan in an interview.

Stiller was quoted as saying — “We are in the process of getting a script written. It’s in the early stages, but it’s gonna happen. “We have a new story idea that we feel excited about and we’re going to try to go forward. The beginning of the movie is [set]… 10 years later, and Derek & Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody even knows who they are, so they have to re-invent themselves.”

Stiller intends to bring back Will Ferrell’s character for the project too and is under negotiations working with him again.

No Wanted 2 For Angelina Jolie

February 26, 2010 - 9:43 am No Comments

Screen shot 2010-02-26 at 2.04.37 PMThe sequel to the Wanted flick that starred Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy two years ago may not be happening after all. It has been reported that Angelina just pulled out of the project because it will be in in direct conflict with her work schedule for a new thriller she is working on. The thriller is called Gravity and will be directed by the acclaimed Alfonzo Cuaron, who has helmed films like Y Tu Mama Tambien and Children of Men.

Gravity is about a woman who is the last member of a faulty space mission and she is desperately trying to get back to Earth. No other actor has yet been tapped to play opposite Angelina as this film is sorta like Castaway in space.

How Do You Feel About An Avatar Sequel?

February 10, 2010 - 9:26 am No Comments

Screen shot 2010-02-11 at 4.27.33 PMIt seems as though James Cameron believes in striking while the iron is hot. With his film Avatar becoming the highest grossing movie to have ever been produced, making over $2.2B all over the world, James Cameron now says that there could be plans for a sequel to the movie.

Speaking before the press at the red carpet in Santa Barbara’s Film Festival, the academy award winning director said: “A lot of ideas for the sequels kind of evolved out of writing the story for “Avatar.” Anything that we designed, ideas that we had, if we couldn’t figure out how to put them in the movie we said “We’ll stick it in the sequel,” so we have a big backlog of ideas.”

And for a story arc for the the second movie? James Cameron says he already has something in mind and it can possibly also involved a third installment.

While the project is still vague, we know at least that there is an intention to produce even more from this.

Avatar was actually a movie in the making for 15 years.
