John Carpenter, Hillary Swank in Fangland

June 7, 2010 - 8:18 am No Comments

fanglandHere is another one of those books to movies adaptation and this time, John Carpenter, known for his films like Escape From New York, Halloween and Prince of Darkness, is set to direct John Mark’s novel, Fangland. The book was released in 2007 and it is about vampires in post 9/11 setting.

Setting sites on who should play the lead, Evageline, Hillary Swank is supposedly being eyed to play the role.

Here’s a bit of plot summary of Fangland from Wiki:

Evangeline Harker, Associate Producer on television news magazine “The Hour”, is sent to Transylvania to scout out a possible story on a notorious Eastern European crime boss named Ion Torgu. But she finds the true nature of Torgu’s activities to be far more monstrous than she could have imagined. In the New York office that once stood in the shadow of the Twin Towers, Evangeline’s disappearance causes uproar and a wave of guilt and recrimination. Then suddenly, months after her disappearance, she’s found convalescing in a Transylvanian monastery, her memory seemingly scrubbed. But then who was sending e-mails in her name? And what do those crates delivered to the office contain? And why does the show’s sound system appear to be infected with some strange aural virus? As a very dark Old-World atmosphere deepens in the halls of one of America’s most trusted television programmes, its employees are forced to confront a threat beyond their wildest imaginings

Should this project come into fruition, Fangland would have to be Carpenter’s return to directing. And fans of horror movies should be looking forward to this.

Horror Movies Are Here to Stay

May 1, 2010 - 6:56 pm No Comments

Horror Movies PosterHorror movies are as much a part of American culture as baseball and apple pie. Unlike the latter however, they tend to elicit the emotions of fear, horror and terror. Their plots frequently involve themes of death, the supernatural or mental illness. Many horror movies also include a central villain.

Early horror movies are largely based on classic literature of the gothic/horror genre, such as ‘Dracula’, ‘Frankenstein’, ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, and ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’. More recent horror films continue to exploit the monsters of literature, and also draw inspiration from the insecurities of modern life (’The Wolfman’, ‘The Uninvited’, ‘The Stepfather’).

Paranormal Activity

November 5, 2009 - 9:58 am 3 Comments

I love watching movies. It’s like a rest time for me after a long day of hardwork. Recently, I heard a lot of comments about the movie “Paranormal Activity”. I was so excited to watch it but I’m having second thoughts for the reason that I don’t like horror films. So I just made up my mind and I grabbed the oppurtunity to watch it  during my free time. Honestly, the first 20 minutes of the movie made me really dissapointed. There was a lot of conversations and I got really bored and wanted them to stop talking and wish they would just show all the spooky scenes.  So after a long wait, they showed the scary part, and there I was speechless. Chills came running down my body and I’m just so thankful I was watching it with someone. I don’t want to be a party pooper so I’m not going to blog  about what I’ve seen in the movie. But I’d like to congratulate the director of the “Paranormal Activity” Oren Peli for doing a superb job. The concept of the movie was really creative and unique. Their acting was so realistic that made a gullible person like me believe that the movie was real. After watching it I immediately searched the internet for some facts about this movie. The director said that he patterned this film with his personal experience. Some of the scenes did really happen when the director bought his new house. (creepy right?) but I was glad that the end part of the “paranormal activity” didn’t really happened in real life because that was the most scariest part of the movie. What I noticed lacking in this movie was that they didn’t thought about praying. They were resolving there “spooky problems” with their own strength and we all know that the only solution in this kind of situation is to believe in God and pray. Oh well, I’m not trying to be religious in any way but still I wish they’d considered praying because It’s a powerful weapon against demonic stuff. On the other hand, I would like to congratulate the special effects team in this movie. Some parts were really realistic so I’ll give them two thumbs up for that. The actors were really good, to the point that I was thinking if the movie did really happened (great acting guys!). To sum it all up, I think the movie was ok. It was purely made just to inform the people that things like these does exist.

New Moon Official Website is Finally Up!

June 4, 2009 - 4:04 am No Comments

It’s about time!  There are only 5 months and 16 days left until the movie opens, people (not that I’m counting…).  The official Twilight Saga: New Moon website is finally up as of yesterday, 6/3.

You can get to it here.

It’s pretty nice.  It has the black background with gold writing, and it’s easy to navigate with the links spread across the top (though if your monitor tends to be dark, they can be kind of hard to see).

The home page has the official poster, then there’s an “About” page which gives a decent plot summary.  The downloads page has widgets, posters and wallpaper (no sneak-listens to the soundtrack yet), and you can share it through Facebook, Twitter, Digg and all the rest.  And if you’re one of the 2 people on the planet who doesn’t own the Twilight DVD, you can buy it here.

Then you can also register and get on the mailing list, which I did.  I expect to be the first to know any breaking news about New Moon because I have done this.  I’ll let you know.

Both these screencaps are from www.horror-movies.ca, not from the New Moon Movie Site, though you could get them there, since they’re just caps of the teaser.  Mostly, I just thought Jacob deserved some shirtless time, since Edward’s already had a bunch.
