I feel like I’m really behind the 8-ball on this one, but since most of the news coverage has been gossip and rumors, at least I haven’t missed anything reliable. I’m sure everyone knows by now that R&B singer Chris Brown was arrested for hurting his girlfriend, R&B singer Rihanna.
The exact nature of the hurting isn’t entirely clear, but it was enough to get Brown arrested and Rihanna sent to a hospital. Bruises and blood are involved, according to police reports, so the case has gone to the LA County DA, who will decide whether to press charges, and if so, what kind.
Now, some people are saying that Rihanna cheated on Brown while on tour, contracted herpes, and came home to her sweetie with it. Others say that Brown received a booty call text message from some other woman, and Rihanna saw it and got mad. They fought, and Rihanna ended up hurt.
I’m linking to the AccessHollywood report on this, though these conflicting reports can be found all over the internet. But what was interesting about the AH story was the comments beneath it. Most of the posters felt that Rihanna had it coming to her, and that she was to be blamed if Brown’s career suffered.
I know that the people who post such trogloditic remarks do not read my blogs. I use words of 2, sometimes 3 syllables. So, my wit and insight would be lost on them. Nevertheless, I feel the need to just say this, because there are some people who haven’t heard it and to whom it apparently isn’t obvious:
IT IS NEVER OKAY FOR A MAN TO HIT A WOMAN.
I don’t care if she slept with the whole road crew and all the ticket takers. Now, I don’t think she did…but so what if she did? Dude, break up with her, spread rumors about her, date someone more grateful for your attention next time, but hitting her? Off limits.
