The Pacific Mini Series Premiere on HBO
Nearly ten years after following up to their historical and critically acclaimed “Band of Brothers” mini-series, Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Garty Goetzman are once again hoping to repeat the same success with “The Pacific”. This is another epic drama based on Eugene Sledge and Robert Leckie’s memoir, and touches on the World War 2 between the Japanese and the Americans, taking place in the Eastern part of the hemisphere.
While “Band of Brothers” centered on the Easy Company paratroopers, “The Pacific” will focus on the Marines in the Pacific Theater of Operations. It will have three life story focus.
Playing the lead is actor Joe Mazzello as Eugene Sled and James Badge Dale as Robert Leckie. Before filming, these two were doing extensive research, including talking to families and watching a lot of documentaries about the war during that time. They also had to undergo bootcamp of about 21 days under Senior Military Advisor Dale Dye, who also did the same for the cast of BoB.
Says the actors: “I lost 12 pounds in those 9 days… they wanted us to lose the weight because the guys who fought there were emaciated and they wanted us to look the same way. We got our taste of it and we kind of got…to be able to honor these men the way they deserve.”
“The Pacific” is said to be darker and more compelling than “Band of Brothers” but coming from the same team or crew, it is expected to be another masterpiece.
