Where is Will Smith?

March 24, 2010 - 5:26 pm No Comments

Screen shot 2010-03-25 at 10.26.51 AMWhatever happened to Will Smith? His last movie, as far as I can remember was that sleeper “Seven Pounds” and it didn’t do well as expected. He was pretty good in it though. But after this film, he pretty much had a quiet year, didn’t he?

Maybe that’s not going to be the case any longer as reports from Variety says, this Oscar nominated actor may soon be back to the movie grind and working towards completing “Men In Black 3″. I’m not exactly a fan of this franchise but I guess with the advent of every adventure movie coming out with a 3D version, this must be the reason why they think having a third installment is such a good idea.

Will is also going to be working on another fantasy movie called “The City That Sailed”. This is going to be written by Andrew Niccol, who was the writer for “The Truman Show” and is about a father and a daughter who got separated from each other.

olivia_wilde2A UK tabloid has reported that Slumdunk Millionaire hottie Freida Pinto has just signed on and is now part of the next Daniel Craig Bond movie. It is set to be directed by Sam Mendes and will have Afghanistan as its chosen location, the British Daily Mirror reports.

“Sam (Mendes) has been talking about Bond for months now and is so excited about it. The project has been in the pipeline for months and Freida was always the dream Bond girl, but initially she was nervous about accepting it.”

But Pinto isn’t the only one wooed to join the flick.

Sources say, House TV actor, Olivia Wilde is also being tapped to play the second Bond girl but there is still no confirmation about this offer.

The new Bond film is the 23rd of the franchise.

Wizard Of Oz Remake In The Works?

Screen shot 2010-03-12 at 12.09.11 PMMore remake news…

The LA Times has reported that Warner Bros may be bringing back a new and improved remake of the Wizard of Oz.

There are two kinds of project slated. One, simple entitled Oz, is going to be produced by Temple Hill, the same people behind the Twilight franchise. And another project, a much darker version, is going to be written by Josh Olson and will focus on the granddaughter of Dorothy, who returns to Oz. The second project is technically a sequel, rather than a remake.

In fairness though, Wizard of Oz has been remade and redone plenty of times. There’s even one that starred the late Michael Jackson with Diana Ross in the movie musical, The Wiz.

Another Superhero Movie Gets A Reboot

February 8, 2010 - 9:58 am No Comments

165912__dare1_lFollowing news that Watchmen may be having a sequel or a prequel, and the much talked about reboot of Spider-man, guess which superhero movie is also getting a new treatment?

According to news reports, Regency productions is planning to remake the movie that starred Ben Affleck back in the late 90’s.

Yes, Daredevil is getting its own new treatment. I’m not even sure if the film needs it. Did the first one even have a good following? I don’t even remember watching it.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the reason for this is —- “Hollywood studios with Marvel superheroes need to keep reinventing these Marvel movie franchises or the rights revert back to Disney-based Marvel.”

The studio needs to beat a deadline, before the rights or franchise expires.

Universal Brings Fast And Furious Five

Why a studio decides to make sequels after sequel is anybody’s guess. In some cases, the franchise may actually be so good, that to not have a sequel would be out of the question. In most cases though, studios are in it for the money. It’s easier to market something that already has a brand. And Fast and Furious is that brand.

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker have reportedly signed up to do Fast Five, the fifth installment to Fast and Furious. Universal has chosen Justin Lin to direct the film and Chris Penn as its writer (who was the writer of the last two movies).

The story will roughly be the two main character’s running away from the law….so what else is new? An expected 2011 release is the target.

Last year, Fast and Furious earned a total of $350 worldwide.
