Inception Is This Summer’s Biggest Hit

July 19, 2010 - 9:41 am No Comments

inceptionwwThe Christopher Nolan directed film, Inception, continues to rule the box office as the movie runs in theaters on its second week.

The sci-fi action thriller’s success has not been anticipated. While expecting to do well, it is doing actually superb and has exceeded all expectations. Moviegoers are enjoying its cerebral plot line, which many have said was quite difficult to understand. For a movie to have an effect like that, its box office draw is actually a surprising plus.

Christopher Nolan, who has previously directed The Dark Knight, which is another box office success, also did an earlier, similarly mind-boggling film, Memento, which was actually his first. It was a critical success but didn’t receive the same box office success as Inception today.

Inception has so far earned about $60 Million in box office returns and is estimated to reach the $200 sometime in the next two weeks.

It even beat the family, animated comedy, Despicable Me, which dropped to second place, while still doing well at the tilts.

Inception also stars Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy and Michael Caine.

Guess the vampire craze will not stop or die down (unless you beat that craze with a stake in its heart?). Even Hollywood box office king, Will Smith, is getting on the bandwagon. Apart from working on Men In Black 3, he is set to also do a The Legend of Cain and is even producing the said movie.

The story of Cain is based on the Bible with Will Smith playing the title role of Cain, the world’s first original “bad boy” as the press releases are saying. But since this movie will be an updated version, the story will contain a lot of twists and will, in fact, have vampires among the characters.

There has been no director picked for the film yet and no studio has been tapped to tie up with Will Smith’s production company, Overbook Entertainment. The company, meanwhile, is still enjoying reaps and reaps of box office success brought by the remake of Karate Kid.

Katheryn Bigelow is the King of The World

Screen shot 2010-03-08 at 5.50.02 PMOscars 2010 was the battle of the exes with former husband and wife, Katheryn Bigelow and James Cameron, each vying for the Best Director plum and the Best Picture plum for their movies.

Bigelow directed the war movie, The Hurt Locker, while Cameron was the man behind the box office success, Avatar.

Insiders said Cameron had a huge chance repeating his success from last decade, when his film, Titanic, won for both director and picture awards (and where Cameron uttered the very famous King of The World line in his acceptance speech).

Last night though, the King was Bigelow, who bested her ex-husband, and eight other films, for the top honors at the 82nd Academy Awards.

Though tied at the nominations, The Hurt Locker walked away with six out of nine awards. It was a very surprising result in an otherwise very boring ceremony.

The show was hosted by Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin and although there were a couple of highlights, like Ben Stiller’s appearance dressed as a Nav’i, or that John Hughes tribute which had some of the stars of the 80’s present, this year’s event, spanning nearly four hours long, was  a total snoozefest overall.

Anyway, the complete list of winners follow after the cut —-
