Argentine soprano dies on stage
Argentine soprano Florencia Fabris suffered a stroke on stage during a concert and died two days later in hospital, Argentine media reported Tuesday.
Fabris, 38, had been singing in Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem as one of four soloists Friday at the Juan Victoria auditorium in San Juan, about 1,000 kilometres north-west of Buenos Aires, when she suffered the stroke. She needed to sit down to finish her performance.
At the end of the concert, she was taken to hospital in the Andean city of Mendoza and underwent surgery. Fabris later suffered a massive cerebral haemorrhage, which caused her death late Sunday, the Argentine daily Clarin reported Tuesday.
”The most striking thing was that she could not stand up, but she went on singing anyway. It was a great lesson in professionalism,” said Mendoza Choir director Ricardo Portillo, who witnessed Fabri’s health problem. (dpa)
