Stevie Wonder to boycott Florida over stand your ground law
Soul legend Stevie Wonder said he won’t perform in Florida in protest of the state’s so-called stand your ground law, which was the basis of the successful defence of George Zimmerman.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Wonder made the announcement during a concert in Quebec on Sunday night. He also said he would stay away from any other US states with similar laws allowing people to use deadly force rather than back off from an assailant.
”I decided today that until the stand your ground law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again,” Wonder said.
”As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world.” (dpa)
