Scarface Getting A Reboot?

Posted by Lira

News have it that Universal Pictures is on the first stages of the development for the newest Scarface project.

The original film was first released in 1932 and was subsequently remade in the 80′s with the film starring Al Pacino.

According to the report, some of the elements from both films will be incorporated in the reboot, but it should be clear that this is not going to be remake or a sequel.

The movie is about an immigrant of the US, who establishes himself in criminal ways and becomes a kingpin. Scarface’s idea of the “American Dream” is quite twisted and his ambition turns violent and deadly as the film closes.

The reboot wil also feature an immigrant but the studio is still keeping secret its origin. The first Scarface movie featured an Italian, while the second movie had Al Pacino as coming from Cuba.

Martin Bregman, who produced the 80′s version is said to be on board this new project and together with the studio, has been looking for a screenwriter.

The Al Pacino film was written by Oliver Stone and was directed by Brian de Palma, while the first version was penned by Ben Hecht and directed Howard Hanks.

Who do you think should become the next Scarface?

There seems to be a lot of potential names being tossed around. Some of them are high profile ones including Robert Downey Jr, Leonardo DiCarpio or Mark Wahlberg. If they go with an African American, I think Will Smith will give it a little twist.
