Glee Movie a Huge Flop
It seems the magic of Glee is slowly fading away. The 3D movie that premiered in theaters this weekend failed to open with decent numbers and landed in the 11th spot.
Financially, it’s not all a lost as making the film only cost $9Million. But nevertheless, it is still considered a huge flop, considering the how the studios and its executive producer have been banking on the TV series’ success to help it at the box office.
Insiders say that fans may have had a lukewarm response to this considering that Glee is something they can watch at home. For free. Another insider said, the film didn’t present anything new, but focusing on three unknown people, instead of the stars, has made it also impossible to find some sort of attachment to it. The studios are apparently blaming this on marketing as well.
Still, the movie could do well with the sale of its video edition, once that is released. A lot of die-hard Gleeks may have opted to just get the movie on the DVD, instead of seeing it in the theaters, as part of their growing collection of Glee mechandise which includes all sorts of media.
The success, or lack of it, of this movie has been compared to the movies that Justin Beiber and Miley Cyrus has done in the past. Although, it must be noted that these two young artists are stars all on their own, while Glee is a musical cast, with different fan base.
