Joy Cancio to ‘Eat Bulaga’: ‘We’re grateful’
MANILA, Philippines – The Sexbomb Girls may have been unceremoniously kicked out of noontime show “Eat Bulaga,” but dance choreographer-manager Joy Cancio says she harbors no grudge against the shows’ producers.
“Malaki ang utang na loob namin sa ‘Eat Bulaga’ because napansin nila ang kakayanan ng Sexbomb,” Cancio says in an interview with “Paparazzi,” Sunday, Feb. 27.
That said, Cancio can’t help but allude to a statement made by “Eat Bulaga” host Joey de Leon a week ago, which insinuated that the removal of the Sexbomb dancers from the show came after she allegedly duped its production and management concerning her finding work for her other girl group.
Cancio maintains, “Hindi po ako nanloko or something.” She adds, “Ginawa naman naming lahat na pagmamahal sa show ng ‘Eat Bulaga’.”
Recall that in an interview last week, de Leon said, “Nagpaalam siya [Cancio]. ‘Raraket lang ako.’ Pinagbigyan. ‘Yun pala hindi sinabi na ang raraketin niya kalaban, katapat.”
De Leon was referring to another of Cancio’s dance group, The Pink Society, who has signed exclusively to ABS-CBN’s noontime show, “Happy Yippe Yehey” through Cancio’s efforts.
But Cancio is adamant that having The Pink Society sign on with “Happy Yippe Yehey” came with no ill motive. “Kailangan lang naman din naming mabuhay,” she says. “Kailangan naming kumain.”
Cancio says she never had inkling that her actions would cause the Sexbomb Girl’s dismissal from “Eat Bulaga.”
“May dalawang grupo walang trabaho, hinanapan ko. Hindi ko rin lamang inakala na mawawalan ng trabaho ang Sexbomb Girls,” she shares.
Cancio denies that the resulting brouhaha sparked a feud between her and The Sexbomb Girls. This was confirmed by Rochelle Pangilinan, the group’s most popular member.
“Kailangan kasi talaga ni ate Joy trabaho eh,” says Pangilinan in the same taped interview.
