Meryl & Julia in August: Osage County
Two of Hollywood’s Oscar Winning actresses are in talks to be working together in one movie based on the Tony-award winning play, “August: Osage County.” The play is written by Tony Letts and the movie will produced by The Weinstein Company, who has also hired John Wells to direct the film.
The story is rather dark and comical with Meryl Streep playing Violet, a drug addict. Julia Roberts will play Barbara, her eldest daughter, who also has a struggle of her own with her husband cheating on her, with a much younger woman. There are other women characters in this story, who will play Barbara’s sisters, who come to the aid for their mom, after their father’s death. The other characters have yet to be named.
It’s been reported that Harvey Weinstein has been planning to do this film for years, as he was also involved with the original stage play. Jean Doumanian, will produce the film together with him.
This is the first time these two actresses are working together, which should thrill their fans. With these two on board, the movie is going to definitely hold a lot of star power.
Filming is supposedly scheduled for Summer next year.
In another note, Julia Roberts has recently been around the world to promote her film, Eat Pray Love, which did significantly at the box office but didn’t generate enough for her kind of stature and star power. News has it that even with a set of twins and a precocious little boy in her family, the actress is still planning on adopting a foreign baby.
