Andrew Garfield Becomes The Latest Spider-man
A few months ago, it’s been reported that Spider-Man is getting a reboot but will not have Tobey Maguire playing the lead role anymore. The actor was Peter Parker for the last three Spider-Man movies. Following this, the search for a new actor to step up to the role was underway. There have been names suggested. But late last week, the studio producing the movie has made its choice and has picked Andrew Garfield as the new Spider-Man.
But his name is still unfamiliar. Garfield’s last film is with the late Heath Ledger in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and he is also part of the cast in the soon to be released movie about Facebook called The Social Network, directed by David Finch.
Marc Webb, who has been tapped to direct the movie after Sam Raimi also dropped out of the project and has also directed the acclaimed 500 Days of Summer, said of his new talent —
“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”
Garfield, 26 years old, was born in America but was raised in England. He has appeared in some British production including the drama, Boy A where he was hailed by critics for his talent.
Filming of Spider-Man’s reboot, which should have technically been the fourth installment, will start in December, with a planned release date sometime July of 2012. The film is going to be shot in 3D.
