Kenny Wormald Lands Footloose Title Role

Screen shot 2010-06-23 at 9.31.48 AM The name Kenny Wormald may not sound familiar to you now, but you will probably hear more of him the coming months.

A relatively newcomer, the budding actor has just landed a much coveted title role, in the remake of Footloose. The film, which originally ran in the 80′s, made a name for Kevin Bacon back then. Can it do the same for Kenny Wormald?

The remake, which had been announced sometime last year, was poised to be a project for Zac Effron. But last month, news came out that he had dropped out of the project and that Chase Crawford, from Gossip Girl was supposed to take his place. Only, the young actor is currently having personal troubles when news of his drug use were headlined a couple of weeks ago.

Paramount, the studio producing the remake, has announced Kenny Wormald’s involvement early yesterday, as well as named the other cast members of the new Footloose. Joining the young actor is Dennis Quaid, who will play the role that John Lithgow did in the original version.

Footloose is a story of a street smart kid who moves to a small town where music is considered illegal. The young man, Ren, thus makes it his mission to overturn this, and butts heads with a lot of adults who have made this ruling.

The same writer from the 80′s film is also doing the screenplay for the remake and says that it will be an updated version, that will closely resemble the original. Craig Brewer, the writer says: “I can promise Footloose fans that I will be true to the spirit of the original film. But I still gotta put my own Southern grit into it and kick it into 2011.”
