Disney’s Tangled Is A Very Hip, Updated Version of Rapunzel
Disney unveils yet another classic animation with this newly released trailer of Tangled. The film is actually about the story of Rapunzel. But the suits at the studio thought it would be better to change its title to attract a wider audience that will include male patrons after learning from it’s last animation, The Princess and The Frog. Apparently, the latter only earned some $260M in its worldwide box-office, a far cry from what Disney had expected, because the title alone didn’t reach out to a male audience.
The updated fairy tale features the voices of Zachary Levi (from the TV series Chuck) and pop star Mandy Moore. And based on this three minute clip, the film provides plenty of action and laughs that not only will the kids like but children of every age and gender. Even Rapunzel appears to be way cooler than how I imagined her to be, based on what I’ve read of it in the book, as a child. The film also sounds smarter and hip.
Here, take a look at the trailer and see the updated vibe Tangled delivers:
As Disney has stated in its press release: “We did not want to be put in a box. Some people might assume it’s a fairy tale for girls when it’s not. We make movies to be appreciated and loved by everybody.”
From the looks of it, I think this decision is wise. I can’t wait to watch Tangled when it comes out during the holidays this year.
