With a target release date of December 2011 for the sequel to Sherlock Holmes, director Guy Ritchie is reported to be wooing academy award winning actor Daniel Day Lewis for the role of Professor Moriarty. Earlier, Hollywood grapevine reports say Brad Pitt was locked for the role, but guess that was really just a false report.

It has not yet been confirmed whether Daniel Day Lewis would take the part. He was last seen in the movie, Nine, surrounded by a lot of female co-stars. If he turns down the role, however, there are talks to either hire Gary Oldman or Sean Penn in his place.

Professor Moriarty is Sherlock Holmes archenemy and is described in literature as the ultimate supervillain.
