Avatar Officially Sinks Titanic
It has been James Cameron 1998 vs. James Cameron 2010 at the worldwide box office records. And James Cameron of 2010 has won.
Avatar, the Christmas hit that the esteemed director helmed, has finally reached and surpassed the record his 1998 film, Titanic previously held. The CGI-real time big budgeted movie has apparently already earned $1.859 Billion worldwide, a feat achieved in only 39 days….and the records may keep climbing. Titanic held the top spot for eight years with $1.843 Billion.
Sources say that the 3D ticket prices for the movie may have helped achieve such a record and insiders believe it could still go high up at $2 Billion, as some countries are still running the film. It may also achieve more box office success after the announcements of the winners for the Academy Awards, in which Avatar appears to be a very strong contender.
I have watched the film on 3D and personally, I don’t find anything astounding about the story. But yes, the CGI imaging did look beautiful but I wasn’t also that impressed. But, I know I’m in the minority on this one.
Avatar is a futuristic film set in 2154, where humans can travel to the moon and other star system and harvest minerals and nutrients there. In one of these system, a tribe of humanoids existence is threatened and some are working to save them.
The film stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver.
James Cameron has reportedly been doing the idea for Avatar since 1994 but was only really able to develop it when technology for his ideas became available.
