Saoirse Ronan, All Grown Up

Screen shot 2009-12-11 at 5.46.01 AM Wowing many of us for the first time in the 2007 movie, Atonement, Saoirse Ronan was only about 11 or 12 when she filmed that (and shown in theaters when she was 13). Now at 15 years old, the young actress, who is busy nowadays promoting her new movie, The Lovely Bones (which she filmed at about 13-14 years old), is all grown up and growing into a fine young lady.

She walked the red carpet premiere of her latest movie the other day looking every inch a poised and classy woman. Only the talented Academy Award nominee has just turned 15 years old this year.

Many of Saoirse’s (pronounced SIR-SHA) co-stars have nothing but praises for her. In Lovely Bones, she plays a rape and murder victim, with so much depth and emotion, you won’t believe it comes from someone this young.

Stanley Tucci: She was only 13 years old when we filmed. How someone acquires that kind of maturity as an actress at such a young age is remarkable. I can’t imagine it. She handles herself as well as any seasoned actor. I wouldn’t even be able to finish a sentence at her age. She’s a real actress. Bottom line. And she is Susie Salmon. No one else could play her.

Peter Jackson (director): Just brilliant. I tend to not work with big stars for the key roles in most of my films. What’s appealing to me as a filmmaker is that audiences don’t bring a preconceived notion to the film of who this person is. They’re more likely to believe in Susie Salmon if they’re not so familiar with Saoirse.

She is going to be someone to watch for in Hollywood in the years to come.
