The much awaited animated film which features the first ever black fairy tale princess from Disney landed in this weekend’s #1 spot at the box office. It not only has the first black princess, the movie also goes back to old school animation —- hand-drawn, instead of CGI. Disney has not had an animated film made this way since 2003 or 2004.

Princess & The Frog is based on the Brothers Grimm classic, The Frog Prince, which tells of a story of a prince who was cursed and turned into a frog. He would need a kiss from the princess to come back to his natural body. Only, in the movie, the twist is something else.

The movie opened with $25million nationwide, according to studio estimates. It replaces the Sandra Bullock film, Blind Side, in the number one spot, with the latter ruling the box office for three weeks now.
