The Star of the Backyard: The Big Green Egg
One of the things I like about “The Sopranos” is checking out the kind of food they eat. I always get hungry after every episode. They usually serve something delectable that I end up going on a food trip. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the show though, but I do remember episodes of backyard cookouts with Tony Soprano barbecuing by the poolside. And of course, he most uses only the best kind of grill. Heck, if he were a real living person, he would probably have the Big Green Egg.
For anybody serious enough to do a barbecue often, I hear the Big Green Egg is one most preferred by enthusiasts. It’s actually a popular choice across America. Some backyard chefs do really spend a fortune on this fancy outdoor kitchen appliance.
So what makes it special?
The Big Green Egg’s concept adopts that of the Japanese’s known as the Kamado, which is like this vessel of a cookware that works like an oven. Shaped like an egg (as you may have guessed), the grill cooks food in less time, but often with the best results. You can also use the same to bake bread or pizza, which you cannot do in a traditional grill. Basically, anything you would want to prepare in a traditional oven, you can do it in the Big Green Egg…only you do it outside, more compact, less messy.
Unlike the Kamado, though, the Big Green Egg is made of ceramic shell. Should it matter? No, actually not. This has little effect on how the food would taste, except that it should always taste good. Because it is made of ceramic, it can retain heat more sufficiently, so food is kept fresh and juicier during long cookouts.
Ease of use is another reason why many prefer this grill oven. It’s a simple kitchen helper with knobs to help work it more sufficiently. Aside from that, it is easy to pack and clean up after use.
And although it is priced a little bit higher, it is practical in the long run as you can use the grill for years and years of backyard parties. The Big Green Egg is a proven versatile backyard necessity the whole family can enjoy from generation to generation. In the end, it is an investment well worth it.
