Will you be watching a Dirty Dancing Remake?
Lionsgate is planning to remake the 80′s movie, Dirty Dancing, which starred Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze. The script for the remake will supposedly be penned by Julia Dahl.
Anyone thinks this is a good idea? Dahl supposedly has only one feature film to her name — Uptown Girls, and that is it.
While I don’t really think Dirty Dancing is a big, big hit, that it shouldn’t be messed up with, I’m really tired of all the remakes.
The original movie, which is about a dance teacher who gets involved with his student at summer camp, made $6 Million in the States but blew up to $200+ Million when it was released overseas. And lest we forget, there actually was a sequel to this movie: Dirty Dancing, Havana Nights… which fared weaker than the first one. I haven’t even bothered seeing the sequel.
There is no word yet on who is going to direct or star in this film. But hey, there’s plenty of talents to choose from. Start with those kids from So You Think You Can Dance, who knows…maybe this film will produce a Superstar.
