Percy and Grover Cast!
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, written by Rick Riordan, is due for release as a movie in 2010. It will be directed by Chris Columbus (sigh… but we can’t have everything). In the world I live in, a HUGE area of speculation has been who would be cast as Percy. The usual adolescent boy actors (I’m looking at you, Josh Hutcherson) all seemed too old, but the younger ones all seemed too… television.
But I think they hit it. Whatever else you want to say about Chris Columbus as a director (and that would be another several posts for me… little of it good), he has had the widsom to cast his roles so perfectly that they practically play themselves–case in point, Harry Potter.
Percy Jackson will be played by Logan Lerman, who played, among other things. Christian Bale’s younger son in 3:10 to Yuma. He seems a tad on the too-old side, but not so much that it’s a deal-breaker. He looks youthful enough to pull it off.
Now, for Grover, Percy’s satyr best friend, the casting is a bit more problematic. It’s 25-year-old Brandon T. Jackson, recently seen in Tropical Thunder. I can see him made up as a satyr, but I think he’s too old.
Here’s imbd’s article about the casting. I am pretty excited to see how it comes along. Yes, I know, I’m an obsessive fangirl about everything I love.
