If it were just a little bit closer to April 1, I would have a hard time believing this, but apparently there’s a 3 Stooges movie in the works.  In my opinion, that’s a waste of…well, not celluloid, since they don’t use that any more, but at least a lot of time and talent. 

The crazy thing is, the rumors say that this project has some huge names attached to it.  Sean Penn?  Benicio del Toro?  Jim Carrey…that one’s a little more understandable, I guess.  But the other two?  What are they thinking?

I think that one of two things is going on here. 

Either:

• this is a sick joke, and someone’s going to say, “Ha!  We’d never really do that!” or
• this is such a guy thing that I don’t have a hope of understanding it–such a guy thing that even the likes of Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro (are the Stooges as idiotic in Spanish?) are willing to squander considerable career clout to play Larry, Moe, and Curly.

In case you were wondering, the rumored cast is Sean Penn as Larry, Benicio del Toro as Moe, and Jim Carrey as Curly.
