Kristen Stewart

Just because she’s in one of the most popular movies of the year doesn’t mean we should confuse Kristen Stewart with a mainstream actress.  Even her choice to do Twilight was, at the time, a risky and edgy thing to do–and who knows what she would have done if she had anticipated all the mainstream fangirl adoration?  (Well, she has committed to New Moon, so maybe she’s not as pure as she’d like us to think)

Joan Jett

So, this indy-girl’s choice to portray Joan Jett in the new biopic The Runaways shouldn’t surprise us.  Stewart has a lot in common with the young Jett–an independent spirit, a defiant attitude, and a rough edge that impresses us and scares us just a tiny bit.  Add some edgy good looks and a load of talent, well, the choice seems obvious.
